#SchoolsIN - From Prototype to Product

Creative Innovation Centre Uganda (CIC-UG) runs and mentors technology clubs at Ofua Community Secondary School and other schools within Rhino Camp refugee settlement, nurturing students’ skills in innovation, robotics, IoT, and coding. As part of the “From Prototype to Product for School and Community Impact” workshops, students from the CIC-led “Learnify Innovation Club” have developed and built practical innovations including an “Electric School Bell System” and “SmartHarvest IoT Irrigation System.”

What sets CIC apart is its strong community roots and resilient structure. With skilled leadership and deep connections within the settlements, CIC is able to build partnerships, respond to local needs, and extend its training beyond its core programs. Its experience shows that sustainable creative capacity-building is built not only through training, but also through strong community relationships.

Through initiatives such as school clubs and Media Makers, CIC creates opportunities for young people to develop their skills, discover their talents, and share their stories. In doing so, it is strengthening local storytelling and helping nurture a new generation of confident, informed, and engaged citizens.
